The dongle also doesn't automatically switch off after a certain time, but always stays on when your e-car is driving or charging and switches to standby mode when you turn it off. This also effectively preserves the 12V battery and there is only a very small residual risk of it discharging. This way, your vehicle data is always read out automatically when you need it and you can conveniently leave the adapter in the vehicle permanently.
